Flights to Cyprus

Technically divided into two states, Cyprus is an island country located in the Mediterranean Sea. Throughout its history, Cyprus has been occupied and conquered by various peoples, including the Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, Romans, and Byzantines. From the 12th to the 15th century, the island was under Crusader rule, and in 1489, it came under Venetian control. Eighty years later, it was occupied by the Ottoman Empire, and in the 19th century, it fell under British rule. Cyprus gained independence only in 1960 and became a member of the European Union in 2004.

Influenced by both Turkish and Greek cultures, Cyprus is a unique destination worth exploring. The country offers stunning landscapes with diverse panoramas, ranging from forested mountains to golden sandy beaches. Beach lovers will find Ayia Napa and Protaras ideal destinations, featuring turquoise waters perfect for water sports. Unique attractions include the late antique mosaics in Kourion and Paphos, the vibrant Byzantine churches with their holy paintings in the Troodos Mountains, and the Troodos Mountains themselves, which are a significant tourist destination. The well-preserved mosaics once adorned luxurious private homes.

Cyprus is also associated with the myth of the birth of the goddess Aphrodite. The Aphrodite Rock, located west of Lissamol, is one of the most beautiful spots in Cyprus, where, according to legend, the goddess was born from the sea. Near Polis, tourists can visit the Baths of Aphrodite, another popular attraction. In the capital, Nicosia, visitors can explore the Cyprus Museum, the Byzantine Art Museum, and the Ethnographic Museum, housed in the Archbishop's Palace.

Cyprus hosts numerous festivals, many associated with the goddess Aphrodite, such as the Paphos Aphrodite Festival. Other popular events include the International Film Festival, Kataklysmos Festival, Wine Festival, Forest Park Rally, Epiphany Celebration, Cyprus Sunshine Cup, Troodos International FIS Races, Ethnic Festival, and the International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama. Practically every month, there’s a festival in Cyprus, and tourists can easily reach the island by air.
