Flights to Czech Republic

Located in the heart of the European continent, the Czech Republic is a landlocked country in Central Europe. The territory of today’s Czech Republic was once part of the Roman Empire and initially inhabited by the Germanic tribes of the Marcomanni and Quadi. Throughout its history, the Czech lands were part of Great Moravia, the Kingdom of Hungary, the Habsburg Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and later Czechoslovakia. It was only in 1993, after a peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia, known as the “Velvet Divorce,” that the Czech Republic declared independence. Today, it ranks third among the most peaceful countries in Europe and has been a member of the European Union since 2004, even holding the EU presidency in the first half of 2009.

The Czech Republic boasts a highly developed economy, with tourism playing a substantial role in its revenues. The country is home to stunning natural landscapes that attract visitors worldwide, including Český ráj, Šumava, and the Krkonoše Mountains. Other popular destinations include the spa towns of Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně, and Františkovy Lázně, as well as castles like Karlštejn, Český Krumlov, and Lednice–Valtice. The main attraction, however, remains the capital city, Prague, nicknamed the “Golden City,” the “City of a Hundred Spires,” or the “Paris of the East.” Visitors to Prague can explore landmarks such as the Velvet Revolution Memorial, Prague Castle, the Summer Royal Palace, the Wallenstein Palace and Gardens, or the Mihulka Powder Tower. Prague itself is a tourist gem that deserves to be explored on foot.

The Czech Republic is also known for its renowned festivals and events, including the Brno International Folklore Festival, Cesky Krumlov International Music Festival, Colours of Ostrava, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the “Sonisphere” Festival in Prague, and the Prague Christmas Market.
