Bucharest
Poland is a Central European country with access to the Baltic Sea, bordered by several European nations, including Germany, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine. The first Polish state emerged in the 10th century, with borders resembling those of today. In the 11th century, Poland became a kingdom, and in the 16th century, it formed a lasting union with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, creating the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. This union was dissolved in 1795, and Poland regained independence in 1918 after World War I. However, during World War II, it was once again occupied by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, becoming a communist state under Soviet control after 1945. In 1989, with the fall of the communist bloc, Poland regained its independence. Today, it is the sixth most populous state in the European Union.
