Oradea is a city located in western Romania, the capital of Bihor County, crossed by the Crișul Repede River and considered the most important city in the Crișana historical region. Archaeological discoveries show continuous habitation of this settlement since Roman times. The city was first mentioned in 1113, while the Oradea Fortress was documented in 1241, originally built by King Ladislaus I of Hungary. In the 15th century, it was known as Civitas Felix due to its cultural and economic prominence, and Austrian astronomer Georg Peuerbach established the 0 meridian here with the construction of an astronomical observatory. Oradea Fortress is considered the best-preserved Renaissance-style fortification in Central Europe. It was conquered by the Ottomans in 1660, came under Habsburg rule in 1692, and officially became part of Romania on October 12, 1944.

Today, Oradea is recognized as a significant historical and cultural center, often referred to as an "architecture reserve" due to its impressive buildings representing Baroque, Secession, Eclectic, and Classical styles.
